Residual herbicides applied pre-emergence or early post can increase yields from 5 to 15 bushels per acre over non-residual programs according to industry research.
2006 Syngenta in-field research with residual herbicides showed:
- AgriEdge GT (glyphosate-tolerant) two-pass program out-yielded competitive programs by an average of 11.8 bu/A, or $41.30/A.
- A one-pass program (Lumax® or Lexar® applied pre-emergence at full rates, or split pre- and post-emergence applications) yielded 183 bu/A across eight locations
- An economy two-pass program (Bicep II Magnum® or Dual II Magnum® applied at foundation rates pre-emergence followed by Touchdown Total™ or Liberty®) yielded 179 bu/A across eight locations.
- An enhanced two-pass program (Lumax or Lexar applied pre-emergence at foundation rates followed by Touchdown Total or Liberty, or applied early post-emergence as a tankmixture) yielded 180 bu/A across eight locations.

Pre-emergence residual herbicides provide more consistent control of tough weeds like lambsquarters and pigweed according to 2006 Syngenta research.
